What could be wrong with my car?
l have a 94 Camry-just hit 116K miles. nothing recently has been done to it, but within the last 2 years-waterpump was replaced , oil change, battery, brake system was repaired excluding master. l think that is it.. But im having a problem::

My car will start up fine and dandy at 6 am when l leave for work cold or not. When l leave work its fine too starts up fine.. when l get home and leave again that is when l have problems it always starts up real bad and idling very low then stalls out completely to where all the lights on the dash are showing.. so l try again .. the Only way it will stay on is if you rev the engine up.. then its fine.. but it stinks really bad like gas or exhaust or something... whats wrong??

Sounds like one of a few problems either the o2 sensor or the catalytic converter, or the ignition system, I'd guess the second option. You can take it to a mechanic and have him plug it into the computer and read the codes, or try the process of elimination, replacing one part at a time till you find the right one.

Have your spark plugs, spark plug wires, and ignition coil checked first. l replaced my battery, then found out it was a fouled plug. At 116K, when was your last tune-up? (spark plugs, wires, oil, etc)

With the fuel smell l would suspect a leaking fuel pressure regulator, the other thing common to these cars is that the EGR valve will hang open when warm causing a rough idle.

u may have an injector that is leaking internally & flooding the engine during what is called a ''hot soak'' period. That or the fuel may be percolating in the fuel rail. This can happen during varying times of the year when the weather has huge temperature swings. The fuel boils inside the fuel rail when the motor is shut off (190 degrees) cooling system quits circulating & no air flow(parked)- underhood temp rises temporarily. If u can park at home in a garage(safe) open the hood to let the warmth out & close it when u leave & see if it starts & runs better. Changing the fuel brand & grade may also help. Good Luck-T&T
