l have a 03 Toyota 4Runner and l get soooooo much brake dust.l can wash the truck and within a couple of days the front wheels are nasty, covered with break dust.l have asked Toyota and they say l have Toyota parts which is what they recommend.Any ideas on what l should do about this problem, other than getting another truck?

All vehicles have a brake dust problem with disc brakes. The wheel design of some vehicles tends to make it worse. Some manufacturers have designed the wheels, in recent years, to draw air in so that most of the dust is blown away from the outside of the wheel. About the only thing you can do is find a vehicle with a friendlier wheel design. Since the fronts take most of the braking effort they will always be worse than the rears.

Well if your thinking of another truck, theres more issues than a little brake dust. Do you use any type of wheel shine or tire shine? this will cause it.Also, are you a heavy braker or alot of stop-n- go? Possibly just do to driving habits.

There are after market dust shields made for some models. They mount on the hub before the wheel and keep dust off the rims. Bought them for my porche.

There are after market dust brake shields that mount between the hub and the wheels. But l would rather change the brake pads to ceramic. Having ceramic brake pads will give you alot less brake dust and better braking. l would still get the shields too. Best of luck.
